What’s in store for 2014?

Just as in previous years, we are all going to learn something new this year.  We had a great year in 2013. Our something new is piano!  We will start looking for a piano to purchase and then we plan to all start lessons in May.  I’m hoping piano will help me with ballet so I can hear the music better.  We want the kids to learn to read music from a young age and they both are enamored with the piano.  Chris wants to learn how to read music and truly be able to play an instrument.

The other plans I have for myself include: 1) Dance a solo part for ballet recital, 2) Complete Warrior Dash and Tough Mudder (will require lifting and running again, not just ballet!), and 2) maintain other hobbies that are important to me:

  • Photography: Instagram photo a day
  • Escape/relax: Read 25 books
  • Write more: 3x/month blogging, journal 1x/week
  • Give back: Volunteer 1x/month

Chris plans to test for his purple belt before year end.  He is considering doing the Spartan race in May and he will be doing both the Warrior Dash and Tough Mudder with me.  The other thing he will be focusing on is finding his ‘what’s next’.  He is in a unique position on having a completely open ended option for what he wants to do.  He wants to give back to our community in a meaningful way and he doesn’t know if that entails volunteer work and/or starting a business.  He wants to still be able to prioritize us with his time, but he wants to find something he’s passionate about.  I can’t imagine being in a position to be able to choose to do whatever I wanted to do – time and money not being a driving factor.

Cooper wants to continue in karate and start soccer.  He’s been practicing soccer in the back yard, he says.  Charlotte I think would prefer to switch to gymnastics, so we will have to look for an option for her.  She is also very, very excited to start soccer.

Next year we plan to take a vacation to either Alaska or Hawaii.  We are looking forward to another fun year!
