Big girl bed!

Well, we finally broke down her train bed.  We are going to sell it at the garage sale and we wanted to give her a few weeks to adjust to the new bed.  She’s just gotten a little too big for a toddler bed and doesn’t seem to be sleeping so well.  She has also wanted a big girl bed since Cooper went into his bed.  Chris is going to build her a train bed and I am going to put some vinyl trains on the wall with flowers for the ‘smoke’.  She seems to be super excited and really LOVES her new bed.

We just painted her room and I’m waiting for her bedding to arrive.  When I get the room finished, I’ll post about it.  In the mean time here are some basic pictures to give you an idea.

Clipping his toenails

Some background info:

We are going to have a garage sale in about a week and have piles of stuff everywhere.

Cooper is obsessed with clipping his toenails.  This means we are constant wrangling toe nail clippers and scissors (yes scissors!) away from him to prevent him from cutting off his toe.

Okay onto the story:

A couple weeks ago I was out in the front yard planting some flowers while the kids were playing in our cars and riding their bikes up and down the sidewalk.  I see Cooper sitting on the grass not far from me and the next thing I hear is him screaming and crying (you know that ‘mommy, I am in serious pain and if you don’t move quick I might just die’ kind of scream?).  He is holding is toe and next to him are these:

Garden-Shears-BY-001-

Yep, he tried to clip his toe nails using GARDENING SHEARS!  It was the old pair sitting in the pile of stuff to be sold (the new pair is hung high where he can’t reach).  He luckily only cut off the soft skin at the tip of his toe instead of his entire big toe, but he was bleeding everywhere.  Very scary.  I am glad he is okay and I am pretty sure this might deter him from trying to clip his toe nails anymore.  Well at least with gardening shears anyhow.

Come here puppy

Cooper and Charlotte’s imaginations have gone wild!  Charlotte now plays with her princess figurines in the little people castle.  She makes them talk to each other and go in and out of the castle, and even kiss each other!  Then she makes them punch each other.

Cooper pretty much plays pretend with anything:  household items like curtain rods become swords and Scouts bones become guns; any other figurines including Barbies, transformers, cars, princesses, babies he will generally play ‘house’ with, and screwdrivers that become Peter Pan’s dagger (yeah Charlotte was Captain Hook and she got scraped on the arm before I could wrangle the screwdriver away from him).

My favorite game they play is ‘puppy’.  Charlotte basically plays it all the time which means Cooper’s new nickname is ‘Puppy’ and she even says ‘Come on puppy, lets go pway!’.  Hilarious!

This is more or less how the game goes:

Charlotte:  Come here puppy.

Cooper:  Yelp, Yelp.  Woof, Woof. ::comes running to Charlotte, sometimes on 2 legs, sometimes on all fours::

Charlotte:  You otay puppy?  Good puppy! ::pats Cooper’s head::

Cooper:  Yelp, Yelp.  Woof, Woof.  Yeah, I’m otay.  (Since when do dogs actually talk?!?)

Charlotte:  ::throws ball::  Go git it puppy!  Petch puppy! (Petch = fetch)

Cooper:  Yelp, Yelp.  Woof, Woof.  ::Runs after the ball and then puts it in his mouth and runs back to Charlotte.::

Charlotte:  Yay!  You got it puppy!  Good puppy! Now drop it!

You betta

We are working on manners and how to ask questions.  Charlotte seems to think demanding is the better way to go.

Mommy, you betta get me juice.

Mommy, you betta chain da tv.

Coopeh, you betta gib me dat toy.

Mommy, you betta pway wit me.

Jobless

I am officially unemployed!  My company closed the Denver office and my last day was May 31.  I have several leads on jobs and I am looking forward to what the future brings for my career!

It’s been a little bit of a struggle these first few days to transition back into being home.  I’m not used to not having alone time (lunch, coffee breaks, shutting my door) and the kids constantly being so needy.  I’m also not used to listening to whining/crying for 12+ hours a day.  That can drive a person batty!  Chris and I are getting used to being around each other and redefining chores and parenting roles.  We seem to be in each other’s way a lot!

At the very least I am getting 2 months off!  This means I can:

  1. Blog more
  2. Take the kids to see the: train museum (again), firefighter’s museum, natural history museum (again), children’s museum, zoo, royal gorge, tiny town, movies, and so on.
  3. Decorate my house:  Charlotte’s room, Cooper’s room, master bedroom
  4. Finish decorating some rooms:  Guest bedroom, my office, Chris’ office
  5. Renovate my house:  Master bathroom and basement
  6. Paint the outside of my house
  7. Take a vacation
  8. Stick to my exercise regimen – Couch to 5K
  9. Garden
  10. See friends and family
  11. Pull out my camera again and take more photos

I think I could get used to this no job thing.  If only I could always get paid for not having a job.  That would be awesome!
