Scout has been the itchiest most annoying dog for several months. Our vet who saved her life twice (once when she ate snail pellets and once when she got stung by a bee in the mouth because she was trying to eat it) didn't have any ideas beyond 'it's allergies, nothing we can do if Benedryl doesn't work' and 'she just has dry skin, don't bathe her so much'. So we decided to try a new vet that is conveniently located 2 blocks from our house. After a full exam he said she has allergies, possibly fleas (we've worked hard to get rid of them so we really doubted this was the main issue), dry skin, and an infection in the areas she as scratched so badly trying to get relief.
A whopping $250 later and several pills and new shampoo, our dog is no longer itchy! She has to take an allergy pill, a cortisone pill, and an antibiotic pill. We are also supposed to bathe her 3-4 times a week with the soothing shampoo. She is calm and relaxing, although the antibiotics makes for some terribly stinky gas that clears the room! The vet said we could give her GasX...but we haven't tried it yet.
If these pills stop working (like the Benedryl did) we will have to spend $800 to do testing for allergies and then more money per month for the allergy pills. We might need some pet insurance with this crazy dog!
Serious cuteness from the daddy files. I love when Chris takes pictures of the kids and I don't know until I start sorting pictures. It's the best surprise.
Michelle posted on our visit with her and posted some pictures if you haven't seen it.
The Big Hunt family posted a picture in their Smilebox of their kids and our two while they were in CA.
I've uploaded pictures on Shutterfly. Maybe Che and Michelle will add their pictures of the kids to Shutterfly so you can order them as well.

Oh man, that must be annoying. We've never considered ourselves the type of people who would be willing to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on a sick or injured pet. However, I didn't consider what I would do if my pet wasn't "sick" or "hurt" but just plain "allergic". That sucks.
Right now we're dealing with our cats that just can't seem to get over the fact that Ellie is here to stay. And the dog is here to stay. It's been over a year since we got the dog and they still growl at him. It's no better with Ellie. So now we have two cats that we don't particularly like anymore but feel obligated to keep them.
It's apparent that you love Scout quite a bit, so I know it's not the same situation. But I wonder what I would do if I were in your shoes.
Love the pictures of them in the chairs! You have such cute children.
