Adult Birthdays

Chris and I have begun making time to celebrate our own birthdays in a bigger way than we used to. We usually just went to dinner with each other, exchanged gifts, maybe went out for cupcakes and called it good. Although it makes for a busy April, we’ve decided to make our birthdays more of a celebration.

This year I planned by birthday with my best friend, Raeann, because her birthday is only 9 days after mine. We invited a fairly big group out to meet for drinks before heading to a burlesque show. I love the atmosphere of the Corner Office, a bar located in downtown Denver, but their drinks are always just average. We had a great time catching up with everyone, and then a smaller group went to the burlesque show.

Both Raeann and I were underwhelmed by the show. There was a lot more comedy by the MC than theatrics/story telling with the burlesque. I’ve been to a great burlesque show in Los Angeles before, so I was probably more disappointed than Raeann. It was fun to hang out with all of our friends, but we won’t be going back.

For Chris’ birthday I planned a tour and tasting at the 303Vodka Distillery in Boulder, then he chose the restaurant for dinner with friends after the tour and tasting. After dinner we all went to Dave & Busters. Raeann was the only one to join us for the distillery tour and tasting, but the 3 of us took a limo up to Boulder so we could safely enjoy the distillery.

It was such a cool little place in a warehouse type of building. The distillery is tiny, but the vodka is fantastic. Chris is a bit of a vodka snob, so this was a lot of fun for him. We got to taste a ton of different flavor infused vodkas. The beef jerky flavor was probably the strangest – our taste buds were so confused. It tasted exactly like beef jerky, which is strange to then have a little bit of vodka burn after and to drink that flavor. We had some amazing drinks: Orange Dreamsicle (vanilla infused vodka and orange juice), Vootbeer (vanilla infused vodka, root beer, topped with whip cream), Pickle Bloody Mary (pickle infused vodka and traditional bloody mary), red bull + grape infused vodka, red bull + watermelon infused vodka. We ended up buying 4 bottles of vodka!

We met up with the rest of the group for dinner and drinks at Bull & Bush. Dinner was okay but the company was great. We had a great time being big kids at Dave and Busters afterwards.
