Chris and I don’t generally cuss, mostly because we know the kids are listening, but also because we believe there are more intelligent words that can be used. The conversations and overheard tidbits lately have us reevaluating how often we cuss. However, we really think most of this is likely coming from using the youtube app on the iPad – which we have now deleted.
It is so shocking to hear the words out of their mouths and we really try not to have any reaction. I can really count on one hand the number of times each of them has said a bad word, so thankfully they aren’t running around talking like this all the time. We’ve let them know the punishment for saying bad words, but I’m hoping they won’t be saying any more bad words (ha! Wishful thinking I’m sure).
Cooper: Mommy, is fuck a bad word?
Me: Yes it is, please don’t say that word.
Cooper: Oh okay. I didn’t know that.
Cooper: Can we say shit?
Me: No it’s a bad word.
Cooper: Okay.

We have also heard Charlotte say:
I’m so pissed.
Shit.
Aw, fuckin’ A!
And the babysitter told us they were saying, ‘We are going to beat their asses,’ while playing Super Mario Bros.

Cooper: Fuck! God damnit!
Me: Cooper, come here. We don’t say bad words. If I hear you say bad words again I will wash the inside of your mouth out with soap, do you understand?
Cooper: Gross!
Charlotte: You really put the soap in my mouth??!?
Me: Do you understand? No more bad words.
Cooper: Yes, ma’am. I won’t say bad words.
Charlotte: Yes, ma’am. No bad words.
