Cooper the chatterbox

Cooper seems to be getting very close to full on potty training.  He’s been taking off his diaper and pants and sitting down in any chair he can find.  We brought his little potty seat in and several times he strips and sits down and pees on his own accord.  We offer to let him go in the toilet before bath every night and he goes in the toilet every night.  Now he’s asking to go by telling us ‘paw-ee’.

For awhile he’s hated having a dirty diaper and will take it off as soon as he poops, or even takes it off and then squats and poops in the diaper.  When we can catch him, he’ll go in the toilet.  If he has to go and it’s bath time, he will say ‘poo’ and point to his butt rather than actually going in the tub (yay for that milestone!).

The problem?  Charlotte is no where near ready.  She only mimics Cooper getting undressed, then maybe sits on the potty for a second and then wants to run all over and play.  She has only recently noticed when she pees on herself.  I feel like potty training might be fairly easy with Cooper, but will be frustrating because Charlotte will want to try, but isn’t ready.  I’m hoping if we just jump in with Cooper, Charlotte will want to be like him and it won’t be as frustrating as I imagine.

Cooper is really starting to talk quite a bit.  He’s probably over 50 words now, many of them intelligible to strangers.  I feel like he says a new word or two everyday and he constantly sits around and chatters practicing new words and sounds.  He knows most of his colors and can say blue (boo), purple (poo-poo), yellow (yeyoh), green (gee), and white (why).  He is also starting to put 2 words together (hi momma, pawee momma).

What is most fascinating to us is his problem solving and pretend play skills.  He loves to pretend with just about anything right now.  He also LOVES puzzles and matching games.  He is getting better at Memory too.

The other thing he is doing very well with is anything physical (as expected).  He already knows how to ‘pedal’ on his scooter as well as pedal his tricycle.  He jumps and runs and is pretty coordinated.  Chris can show him how to do something once and he has it down from then on out.  Simply amazing how quickly he is learning these days.
