Since I didn't get a chance to update the blog about how our weekend was before Cooper decided to make his debut, I'll start with that first.
38 weeks, 5 days: The house gets cleaned!
I mentioned to Chris that 4/14 would be a good birthday. I liked the sound of it and then he would have his own birthday and we would be home to celebrate Chris' birthday. Chris and I both agreed that it was too bad we couldn't predict when Cooper would show up and he would come when he was ready.
Chris and I decided to really clean the house on Friday. We did all of the laundry, filed away paperwork, cleaned up the desk, cleaned the bathrooms, and did a detail job on the kitchen. Part of it was that once I started I couldn't stop. I didn't feel like I was nesting, just trying to clean my house up since Jason was coming up from San Diego over the weekend.
We also went to the grocery store to pick up all of the miscellaneous items on our list. I wanted to try a new recipe so I needed some ingredients I didn't already have. I made dinner on Friday and I was hoping I could rely on some old wives' tales to get things moving along. I wasn't showing anymore signs that it was close, no bloody show, no mucous plug, no contractions. In fact I never felt better!
I had a recipe called "Labor Chicken" which included two main ingredients that are supposed to help induce labor naturally-pineapple and balsamic vinegar. Now I'm not really one to believe a lot of this stuff, but I figured it wouldn't hurt anyhow. So I made it and we ate it...it was actually pretty good!
38 weeks, 6 days: Labor Chicken didn't start labor
I woke up and was still pregnant, no contractions, no nothing. We sort of lounged around the house doing nothing, waiting for Jason to show up. Chris made a crock pot meal for dinner and I made myself a 'Labor Salad' to go with it. This is just romaine lettuce with a basil vinaigrette on it. I figured it couldn't hurt, but after no success with the chicken, I wasn't expecting much.
Jason came up around 8 pm on Saturday and we enjoyed the evening with him. I went to bed around midnight.
39 weeks: Music, computers, tv
I woke up on Sunday and nothing. That's it Cooper wasn't coming on the 14th, I thought to myself. I took Scout on a walk, like I had been doing every morning. I planned on taking a 39 week belly pic and updating the blog with the details of our weekend after Jason left that evening.
We had a very low key day. We went to Islands for a birthday lunch that Jason treated us to. I had my usual Big Wave burger with cheese. When I went to the bathroom I noticed that I felt really crampy after peeing. This wasn't completely unusual since I had felt that way over the last week. It just seemed a little more painful than usual. I just figured it was because I let my bladder get too full.
When we went home, Jason installed Photoshop and some other programs on our computers. Then he played the keyboard while Chris played the guitar. Chris and Jason also played around with the video camera we bought and then edited some videos using the recently installed software. I just sat around and watched and talked with them. I also took a 2-3 hour nap and Chris tried to take one too, but Jason made him stay awake and 'entertain' him.
We ordered pizza for dinner (sausage and pepperoni from Pizza Hut), and then had Root Beer Floats for dessert--yummy!!!
Jason was very concerned about me going into labor while he was visiting. He really didn't want to see my water break. We explained that it only happens around 15% of the time, so it would probably be okay. He said, "So it's not like in the movies?" and we assured him that it probably wouldn't be. He said he would feel more comfortable if I could wait until he leaves.
He left around 9:30 pm. I sat down to watch all the new Sunday TV that the TIVO recorded. Finally some of the shows were coming back and I was excited to just 'veg' out in front of the TV for a few hours before I went to bed.
I was able to watch all the shows, but I kept getting up to go to the bathroom every 30 minutes or so, and virtually not peeing anything out. I just kept drinking lots of water thinking that I must be dehydrated...
Stay tuned for the birth story!
