In Between

I’m struggling dealing with this in-between stage with the kids.  They throw tantrums because they are done with high chairs, but they won’t stay sitting in the big chairs for meal times.  They want to drink out of regular cups, but they don’t quite have the hang of it and spill the entire cup over and over.  They won’t wear diapers, but they won’t wear underwear or go on the potty either (and we have to put Charlotte in the boys Handy Manny underwear because she hates the princess ones).  They have a lot to say, but don’t have the words to say it, so instead throw tons of tantrums.  It’s just stage, right?  Please tell me it will pass soon.

And because these super cute pictures help remind me why it’s all worth it…

Cooper’s newest favorite thing is to pretend to go to bed in our bed.  He climbs up, lays down and covers up and then wants one of us to lay next to him.DSC04236_edit

We have a video monitor for Cooper and it’s always interesting to see what kind of sleeping arrangements he gets into.  This is him sleeping across the short side of the crib with his legs propped up on the bars.DSC04243

And since Scout is largely ignored on this blog since the kids have come along (squinting for the camera):

We went from high chairs to boosters and then from boosters to the regular chairs. Jordan has been in a booster for a LONG time now and probably won't go to the chair until she's well after 2. Have you guys tried any baby sign language? We found that to be extremely helpful when they were trying to tell us something that we didn't understand (both girls). We also found small plastic cups with monkeys on it (and one with her name). That's her BIG GIRL cup and the rules are she has to use 2 hands and be VERY careful. We started with water and about 1/2 to 2/3 full. She only got it at dinner (when Brandon was home because I didn't have the patience for the mess). She can now USUALLY drink from a big girl cup with no spills. And some people swear by naked potty training! But yes, those all sound like stages that will pass. Hope they pass soon!!

It is just a stage and this too will pass. Maybe a few helpful options that we used during all these stages with maile.

Diaper staying on, we used duct tape. usually just during nap and nighttime so she wouldn't wet the bed. But after a few days of duct tape she stopped trying to take it off all the time.

Chairs, Maile refused to use a booster chair most of the time, and so we taught her to be on her knees. You might have to get some padding for your chairs, but Maile seems very happy and has her independance this way.

I agree with Amy on the regular cup. i think if you compromise, and let them get a regular cup at dinner, and only about 1/4 full to start. That's what we did with maile as well, or still doing with Maile. She uses sippy cups most of the day, and a regular cup at dinner. She's up to about 1/2 cup full now. Or there's also those throw away cups that come with straws, which Nana uses and are just different enough from a sippy cup that she loves it. Plus they clean really well in the dishwasher too. No icky straw issues.

Hope this helps, and believe me, it will pass, and new things will start. They change so much from week to week it's exhausting. One week Maile sleep awesome everyday, and takes a regular nap. The next week, we'll be lucky if she takes a nap, and she's up atleast once a night. It's never ending. But we just gotta roll with the punches and be smarter than your children.. which some days is really hard. HA HA
