Dessert night is only on Fridays in our house. It teaches sugar in moderation and that food isn't a reward, but mostly we do it to end all arguments before they start. The answer to "can I have dessert" is always, "Is it Friday?"
I told the kids that because Chris and I had date night on Friday, that we could go for dessert on Saturday. I should have just been vague and said 'this weekend'. The whole day just ran late and we didn't eat dinner until 7:00 pm, with bedtime normally at 8 pm. I just couldn't imagine sending my kids to bed after pumping them full of sugar, so I told them we would move it to this afternoon. Melt downs ensued, but I held firm.
So of course this afternoon it started snowing and I had already promised ice cream. We trudged through the cold snow to go have cold ice cream. Cooper said we should always eat ice cream in snow tornadoes. I don't think I agree, but I had a good afternoon with my kiddos.
