Waiting, waiting, waiting

Today my life consisted of mostly waiting.  I really, really dislike waiting.  I’m the most impatient person I know, well besides my daughter, and waiting is the worst kind of torture.

It snowed, which is not a big deal because it’s you know, Colorado.  It’s been so warm lately that the ground is pretty warm.  This means that when it starts snowing overnight with very cold temperatures there is a sheet of ice that’s left on the roads in the morning.  I left for work and anticipated a slow commute.  My Audi did awesome!

Unfortunately it was painfully slow drive, having only travelled 3 miles in one hour.  So I decided to head back home and work from home.  I wanted a coffee first so I was pulling into the Starbucks parking lot near our house around 8:30 am.  It’s a fairly steep hill for the driveway, and it was just a sheet of ice.  My car did very well, but I foolishly turned my front wheels as I was coming to a stop at the bottom of the driveway (habit at this driveway – it’s the only way to go to get into the shopping center).  As I did so, my back end slid out and I slid sideways and forward a bit into a stop sign.  Luckily the pole was padded!

But…MY NEW CAR!!!  Luckily there was no one else around, I wasn’t hurt and the airbags didn’t deploy.  I jumped out and saw that the damage appeared to be minor.  So I got back in the car and made my way across the parking lot and parked the car.  I got out to check on the car in more detail and noticed fluids gushing out of the car.  Got back in the car and turned on the engine so the computer would tell me what was wrong.  Coolant. Alright, not driveable.

After about 10 different phone calls to 5 different people (insurance agents, insurance claims, husband, work, roadside assistance), I had a tow truck estimated to come out in 4 hours (LOTS of accidents that morning).  Insurance will cover the repairs and my rental car while my Audi is being fixed.  I walked home the few blocks and worked from home all morning.

I went back later at 1:30 pm to wait for the tow truck.  Got a phone call at 1:30 that they would be 30-45 min late.  An hour later at 2:30, got another phone call that it would be another 45 minutes late.  An hour later at 3:30, got another phone call that it would be another 45 min.  An hour later at 4:30, got a phone call that it would be 1-4 hours!  I gave up and told them I could do everything the next morning.  I walked home again in the bitter 12°F weather (Chris’ car is rear wheel drive and cannot get around in icy conditions…that’s what happens when you buy a car in CA and move to CO).

Hopefully they will actually show up at 9 am tomorrow, I can go get the rental car and be into work by lunch.
