Did you know that this also National Adoption Awareness Month? The focus is on the urgent need for adoptive families for children and youth in foster care. This year the theme is Partnering for Permanency, which is essentially utilizing social media and recognizing the partnerships it takes to create permanency for children in foster care.
Although our adoption is a kinship adoption, Charlotte was in foster care prior to coming home to us. We have been incredibly lucky to extend our ‘family’ and build relationships with her foster mother and other family members. It’s how we met The Dey Family (Michelle, Charlotte’s foster mother), The Hunt Family (Tiffany, Michelle’s best friend and roommate), and the Hunt/Hodkins 10 Pack (Ambyr, Tiffany’s sister-in-law). All three families have also built their families via adoption from foster care. They have been a tremendous support network for us, and with Ambyr’s wonderfully responsible children, we also have several babysitters! Best.networking.ever.
I don’t know if I ever told Charlotte’s adoption story, at least not in the way I told Cooper’s birth story. So this month I will be working on Charlotte’s waiting and coming home story and fill in some of the blanks from the announcement that she came home and the background information posts.
